The whole church is invited to join us on Sunday, April 25 for some square dancing fun as we celebrate all we learned about God’s great love for us during our first session of Praise & Play. Carl Heismann will be our caller for the evening. The fun begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m., so you won’t be worn out for Monday morning. So -- put on your dancing shoes and come kick up your heels as we Praise God through Play.
On March 14 our three year olds were presented with their very own prayer pillows. Receiving the rainbow striped pillows this year were Vincent DeToto, Melody Grams, William Miller and Tori Sharp. During their regular Sunday School time they learned about the different times that they could pray and they received copies of prayers that they can keep in the pocket of their pillows. The week before they received the pillows they helped to make a praying hands banner that was used in the sanctuary during Lent. We want to thank Bobbie Hoff for making the current batch of pillows. They have been in high demand by older children, youth and adults.
This is a special web site for children and teens, but it can be used by God’s children of any age. Take a few minutes to check it out at www.1ststeps.net. Be sure to click on the “Blessings Button” and to visit the “Prayground.”
During Lent the different children’s groups and classes made seven banners that have been hanging in the sanctuary. The first six are symbols from the stories of Holy Week. As they helped put the banner together they learned what the symbols meant and then shared that with the congregation during the Children’s Message time. Children’s Church 1st Service group made the palm branches. Children’s Church 2nd Service group put together the basin and towel. The cup and bread were done by the Faith Explorers Class, while the Rainbow Kids worked on the praying hands. The Kids for Christ class made the next two banners representing the 30 pieces of silver that were paid to Judas and the stone that was placed in front of Jesus’ tomb. All of the children helped to make the colorful butterflies on the Easter Joy banner.
The spring and summer mission for our Children’s Ministry is the United
Methodist Children’s Fund. This year the fund is supporting the Lao
Samphang Methodist Church in Vientiane, Laos; “Son”day in the Sunshine
at Solomon Community Temple UMC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Pencils and
Possibilities in South Sudan; and The Dream Catchers in Bok Chitto,
Mississippi. All programs support children in need. Our Holy Chaos
Summer Sundays program will focus on learning more about each of these
missions.
